Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTICT449 - Use version control systems in development environments

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to use version control systems (VCS)

  1. Research and choose version control system (VCS) according to organisational requirements
  2. Identify required subversion and VCS pre-installation factors
  3. Determine and communicate installation disruption to required personnel according to organisational policies and procedures
  4. Install VCS and create personal account and push changes from branch according to VCS service provider and organisational requirements
  5. Configure tools and user interface of VCS according to organisational requirements
  6. Create local repository according to service provider procedures
  7. Create required directory according to service provider procedures and organisational requirements
  8. Create and access required staging environment structures and branches
  9. Create and access files in the repository according to service provider procedures
  10. Add and commit files to staging environment
  11. Commit required files to local depository
  12. Locate track of initial version change and confirm new status according to service provider procedures
  13. Respond to remote pull requests according to service provider procedures
  14. Retrieve remote commits and locally merge according to service provider procedures
  15. Document VCS test outcomes according to organisational requirements
  16. Submit documented outcomes to required personnel
  17. Respond to feedback on documented outcomes from required personnel
  18. Obtain final task sign off from required personnel
